Italy | Milan Obsessions: Navigli District

Just off the Porta Genova stop, during the warmer seasons, one can find something quite special: the Navigli district, stuffed to the brim with nightlife and vivid scenes…

Mind you, there are daytime attractions such as the Church of San Cristoforo and the Senigaglia fair, but the real action happens when the clock strikes aperitivo time. The crowds swell, cigarettes are lit (I have never in my life seen a place with more smoking than Milan, Paris included.), and the mood shifts drastically. Everybody is in social mode, scouting for dates, flitting between groups. Every restaurant and café (bar) spills onto the canal pathways. If looking for some summer nightlife in Milan, this is the place to be in the early evening/night.

Tip: Our favorite aperitivo bar was MAS, which never failed to have a marvelous selection of food. It’s Spanish-themed and always popular, so be prepared to wait a little for a seat. Like mom always said, the busy places are the best ones. In this case, very true. Don’t miss the White Russians – they are the best I have ever had in my entire life. Creamy heaven…
